Currently in the process of decorating your home? We’ve had many of you reach out about ways to decorate and plan kitchen or bathroom renovations from the comforts of home…. And you know we’re always here to help! With this newfound time, you’re likely scouring Pinterest for all kinds of DIY friendly #designinspo that you can tackle from home.
Our input? If wallpaper isn’t already on your design “to-do”, it needs to be added… yesterday! Some of our favourite bathroom renovation projects involve a wallpaper element. In fact, we’re currently in the midst of planning a gorgeous guest bathroom for our client’s English Farmhouse Project with wallpaper from Milton and King.
How perfect is this palate? Wallpaper is a wonderful, often overlooked, alternative to paint. Here are five reasons why everyone should consider using wallpaper in at least one room of their home.
Let’s start with all of the practical reasons why wallpaper trumps paint. While it can look incredibly striking, it’s also going to be a lifesaver in terms of practicality. Wallpaper is surprisingly durable. Unlike paint, which can chip and scratch, good quality wallpaper is much harder to damage. As such, it can act as a protective layer for your walls that prevents damage.
If you do happen to accidentally mark your walls, most quality wallpaper is made with easy-to clean material. This means you won’t have to worry about repainting, or scrubbing away for hours on end. Because it's so practical, wallpaper can be a hassle-free, safe option for families with young children running around wreaking havoc.
Paint can often leave a room feeling a little dull and bland. A patterned wallpaper will instantly give the room some added texture and depth. If the wallpaper is particularly “loud” or “busy”, try using it on a single wall to make it a “feature wall”. By creating a feature wall, the wallpaper no longer runs the risk of overwhelming or suffocating the space, while still creating dynamic interest.
Wallpaper has the power to completely transform a space. Say you’ve always wanted to live in a modern, industrial style loft with exposed brick walls. Well, with a brick-patterned wallpaper… you absolutely can! Or, let’s say you’re trying to create a dreamy, woodland-themed nursery in a box shaped room. Choosing a whimsical wallpaper will make your little one feel as though they are living in a fairy-tale setting.
If you are unsure about whether completely covering your living room walls with wallpaper is something you're ready for…. start small! Leveraging wallpaper in smaller rooms can help open up the room and turn a drab space into a real statement. Why not try it in your powder room for a low commitment, high impact design transformation! Smaller spaces are great because you need less of it too, so it helps keep the transformation costs within budget.
