Bloomsbury Fine Cabinetry equips homeowners with the knowledge and inspiration needed to start their home renovation journey in all-day Open House event.

By: Kennedy Thornton

Bloomsbury Fine Cabinetry hosted one of our first Open House events since the pandemic, with a focus on discovery. The Bloomsbury Discovery Open House event aid guests with plans to renovate or build new kickstart their dream home projects, by being a one-stop-shop for information and inspiration. This year we had ten industry professionals, from architects to designers to builders in attendance, all from different expertise and backgrounds within the construction and design industry. No stone was left unturned, and information was readily available, helping our guests to take a confident step in making their dream home projects into a reality.

Empowering Homeowners Early

The construction industry is a collaborative one, all jobs, big or small, have an important part to play in a project. From general contractor to appliance representative, every role has plenty of nuanced information, and often homeowners must pick up the pieces along the way.

“With over twenty years' experience, a common mistake we often see in the design and build industry are conflicting decisions,” Robert Thornton, Owner and Master Cabinetmaker of Bloomsbury Fine Cabinetry said “Twenty years ago, clients had fewer choices to make, but with evolving technology, materials and trends, choosing between three options has turned into choosing between thirteen options.”

Bloomsbury Installation Manager, Luke Seymand, touring open house attendees through the Bloomsbury Workshop, showing current projects and sharing our cabinetmaking process.

Although we live in an information age, homeowners seemingly have it tougher nowadays. With varying specification needs from company to company, or everchanging township permit laws, finding valuable information from nearby experts can be difficult.

“Collaboration is key,” Thornton adds “the Open House was focused on helping homeowners by letting them know the important stuff early on, that way they could make more informed decisions, removing any future headaches.”

Mike Mawhinney, President of Reikon Construction, collaborates with Bloomsbury Designer Kerri McLaughlin, on guest site plans. Collaborations like these provide homeowners with both a builder's perspective and a designer’s perspective.

Discovering New Possibilities

With open doors, the Discovery event gave homeowners space for casual conversation with experts, allowing for them to gain valuable insights and inspiration on their dream home projects. Industry professionals know the right questions to ask to ensure that a client's vision fits their personal needs, then they provide relevant recommendations to help their clients get the perfect result for their lifestyle.

“As a designer and interior decorator, you need to make sure you’re giving the clients what they want,” Kassandra Arbour, Bloomsbury Designer and Project Manager said “Once you’ve sat down with them and chatted about all their ideas and options, that’s when you get to be creative, and try to incorporate everything on their wish list into the design.”

“They had good tips on what kitchen features to include with me being a baker!” Anita, client and Open House guest said.

Kassandra Arbour chats with open house attendees and client's about project plans. Designers use the showroom's display kitchens as visual aids to help clients imagine their dream cabinetry design, and make more informed decisions.

The internet has endless streams of inspiration, oftentimes going and seeing the real thing in-person makes the biggest difference. The Bloomsbury Newmarket Showroom and Workshop allows guests to touch, hold and see our large collection of products and samples, turning an unsure ‘maybe’ to a confident ‘yes’.

“The showroom kitchens were so helpful to visualize design features like door handles, countertop styles, custom drawer ideas.” said Anita.

Rhonda Thornton, Owner and Creative Director of Bloomsbury, shows guests Armac Martin hardware display. Bloomsbury Fine Cabinetry Newmarket is one of the only locations in Canada to see the full collection of Armac Martin.

Select Surfaces Corp. representative, Hugo Marinho, showcases stain-free, natural stone demonstration to attendees, allowing them to see many countertop options, ask questions about natural stone and see samples of their selection.
