Christmas 2021 is just around the corner. If you feel like you’ve only just taken down your decorations from last year, you’re certainly not alone! Somehow, this year seems to have gone by extra fast. Does the thought of bringing out your tired old box of decorations yet again fill you with dread? Why not mix things up this year by trying some trendy new Christmas décor trends? Here’s 5 Christmas décor trends you can expect to see in 2021!

2021 Christmas Décor Trends

Mix Deep, Rich Colours with Sparkly Silvers or Golds

If you’re looking to cultivate a festive colour scheme, you may be tempted to opt for traditional reds and greens. However, if you're after a more sophisticated, grown-up take on Christmas, try branching out. One of our favourite Christmas décor trends is to swap traditional bright greens and reds for deep rich colours like emeralds, navys or burgundies along with silver or gold accents. This will give your space a wintery, cozy feel that leans a little more on the sophisticated side of things.

Choose Quaint, Timeless Decor

When choosing Christmas decor items, opt for timeless this year. Think of your holiday decor as an investment - select quality pieces that will stand the test of time and can be passed down from generation to generation. It's always worth investing in unique, timeless pieces rather than going the inexpensive, plastic route. The more timeless, the better. Find old school or vintage Christmas items like 1950s Santas, little wooden sleighs, tasteful wreaths, and simple popcorn strings.

Tip: If it looks like something out of an old Christmas movie, you're on the right track!

Create a Wintery Feel With Cozy Textures

Textures can go a long way in making your room feel a little more wintery and Christmas-y. The key here is to avoid overly kitschy fabrics with festive prints on them. If you're after a more subtle look, opt for simple, block colour textiles with cozy, fluffy textures to evoke a warm, snowed-in cabin feel. For instance, try a woven white throw, a set of plush cushions, a fuzzy rug, or thick cotton drapes to add winter textures to your space.

Opt for Natural Woods to Create a Cottage-y Feel

Another great texture to bring into your space is unpainted wood. Natural wood textures will also give you that cabin feeling, and they're the perfect way to complement your traditional Christmas decorations. We always recommend working with holiday décor that works seamlessly with the original pieces in your home and incorporating natural wood into your everyday decor is a great way to do this. You can add natural wood coffee tables, lamps, baseboards, and more - come Christmas time, these natural woods will help cultivate that cozy, cottage-y feel!

Bring the Natural World Inside

When decorating your space at Christmas time, keep your decor as natural as possible. Rather than buying plastic decorations, one of the most impactful Christmas décor trends is to incorporate real, natural decorations instead. In addition to your natural Christmas tree, you can also decorate with real holly, real wreaths, orange garlands and even real wooden logs. Try hanging wreaths from your light fixtures of dangling holly along the bannister or along your mantle. The scents will be incredible!
