Who says you can’t have a Christmas Tree in your kitchen?!
We’re of the firm belief that absolutely no room should go unnoticed during the holidays, especially when it comes to your kitchen! It is wildly considered to be the heart of the home after all…. so we think it deserves a little extra special love during Christmastime wouldn’t you think? In actuality, we probably spend more time in the kitchen during the holiday season than we do any other time of the year. We bake Christmas cookies, entertain and make holiday meals all from our kitchens during the holidays, so today we’re sharing 5 simple tips to turn your kitchen into a magical Christmas Wonderland!
5 Tips for Kitchen Christmas Decorating
Stick to a Theme
When planning out your kitchen holiday decor, a theme is absolutely the very first thing you should consider! Once you have a theme nailed down, it will be much easier to pull together pieces and items that work together cohesively. The whole idea is to utilize and choose a theme that works seamlessly with your existing kitchen décor so that it enhances the space and doesn’t make it feel too cluttered or take away from the functionality of your kitchen.
For traditional kitchens, we personally love decor that is a bit more rustic or “Quintessential Christmas” if you will. Think your traditional reds and greens, patterns like plaid and lots of woodsy, natural elements to really pull your whole look together and work effortlessly with your already existing pieces!
On the other hand, when it comes to contemporary kitchens, we love a look that’s a bit more minimalistic and glamorous. Think about incorporating silvers, golds and lots of glitz!
Take Advantage of Open Shelving & Cabinetry
Our goal when designing kitchens is always to increase and expand on functionality, and that’s something you’re going to want to keep in mind when planning out your kitchen holiday décor as well. Capitalizing on kitchen space… especially during holiday entertaining…. is paramount! You should therefore look for ways to incorporate a little holiday spirit that won’t take away from a kitchens’ functionality, and taking advantage of open shelves or cabinets is a great way to do just that!
How fantastic do these open shelves look?! We simply added multiple layers of winter greenery to these shelves in order to enhance the holiday aesthetic without sacrificing any space!
Quick Tip: instead of buying already-made garland, opt to purchase a real Christmas Tree & DIY your own garland instead. It’s surprisingly easy, smells delicious & looks absolutely incredible! We’ll be sharing this DIY on social media over the next few days so be sure to keep a lookout for it!
Place a Christmas Tree
We know it may seem a tad bit unconventional, but we just love Christmas trees in kitchens for the holiday season! In our oh so humble opinion, a household can never have too many Christmas trees, & seeing as how it’s likely you’ll be spending a lot of time in the kitchen over the holidays we think it’s pretty reasonable that you should have one in there too… if you have the space for it of course!
We went with a much simpler décor for this particular kitchen Christmas Tree as to not overwhelm the rest of the space! Christmas Trees can take up a lot of room so it’s imperative to keep it simple & keep in mind that your its décor should be in line with the rest of the décor in that room.
Add Festive Cutlery & Linens
This is another really easy way to add a bit of festive flare to your kitchen without sacrificing on the functionality of your space! If anything… it’ll only increase the practically of your kitchen. Simply swap out your regular linens or cutlery for something a bit more festive and whimsical!
We love this two toned cutlery and jungle bell napkin holders! This is taking the whole Silver and Gold theme to a whole new level and we couldn’t love it more!
Utilize Your Mantel!
….And no, we’re not talking about your fireplace mantel! We’re referring to your kitchen HOOD mantel. It needs a little festive cheer too you know! The options for decorating your hood mantel are truly endless! Add wreaths, garland, and ornaments to really create a fun, whimsical festive pop in your kitchen. Your hood is so integral to the overall look and appeal of your kitchen that we’re thinking that it should almost be the focal point and centrepiece of your entire space during the holidays!
We utilized this rustic, white wreath as the centrepiece for our mantel, and then arranged complimentary pieces like glamourous ornaments and more natural pinecones around it to create a harmonious balance!
